Recommended Resources

If you use all the resources on this page, especially the books, I can practically guarantee your life will not be the same afterwards. Your thinking will be different, the way you see the world will be different, the actions that you take will be different... have I made my point?  ;-)

This is not an exhaustive list and it's not in a particular order. I do update this as I find new resources for you.

The links next to each book take you to www.fetchbook.info where you'll find a list of online booksellers, sorted in order of who has the book at the best price!

The Quantum Wealth E-mail Discussion List – stay in touch with grads from the QW class. Maybe they can help you with a Next Step, or be there if you want someone to help with the "4-R's". Share the latest discoveries you've made... or just meet a cool group of humans. Sign up at http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/QuantumWealth/

Loving What Is – Byron Katie with Stephen Mitchell. Could be the last “self-improvement” book you ever read. Let’s you get a deeper understanding of The Work. Find out more about The Work, including audio and video tapes and live samples, at www.thework.com. Click here to find this book at the best price.

How We Know What Isn’t So: The Fallibility of Human Reason in Everyday Life – Thomas Gilovitch. This book will blow your mind and show you the many simple ways our faulty thinking (that worked well in the tundra) leads to our unhappiness… but, better, once you discover this, you’re less likely to fall into the habitual “traps.” Click here to find this book at the best price.

Happiness – Richard Layard. The latest research on what contributes to genuine happiness and what sends you the other way... ultimately, everything you learned in QW is what he suggests leads to happiness!  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Bull’s Eye Investing – John Mauldin. Cuts through the misunderstandings, confusions and lies that many investment professionals use, often innocently, to sell investments that probably won’t deliver results over the next decade… and what can. Next time someone says, “Over time, the markets go up 10%/year,” or “Diversify and hold for the long term,” whip out the chart in the middle of this book and ask, “Is that true?”  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Fooled by Randomness: The Hidden Role of Chance in the Markets and Life - Nassim Nicholas Taleb. A great and often hysterical wake up call about how we are practically wired to confuse luck with skill, randomness with reproducible events, and the power of infrequently occurring events. Get the 2nd edition.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Safe Strategies for Financial Freedom – Van Tharp, D R Barton, Steven Sjuggerud. Useful ideas about investing with the goal of creating passive income equal to your expenses while simultaneously limiting risk.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

The Average Family’s Guide to Financial Freedom – Bill and Mary Toohey. A great book for understanding the real cost of things. Would you buy a $200 pizza? You may have already. Take their investment advice with a grain of salt – it worked for them in the rising bull market of the 90’s; that doesn’t mean it’ll work for you now.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Why Smart People Make Big Money Mistakes & How to Correct Them – Gary Belsky and Thomas Gilovich. A revelatory introduction to behavioral economics – how our brains are designed to make bad financial choices… and a bit about what to do about it.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

The User Illusion – Tor Norretranders. Prepare yourself. The first half of this book might seem extremely tedious to you. But without it you couldn’t whip through the second half, which is a mind-opening review of the hard science being done to investigate consciousness and what that is (and isn’t). Just seeing how all of your decisions happen before you make them is worth the read!  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Pay It Down: From Debt to Wealth on $10 a Day – Jean Chatzky. The book doesn’t actually address the “wealth” part, but it’s got some great ideas about the debt part. Click here to find this book at the best price.

Your Money or Your Life – Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin. A seminal book about genuine financial satisfaction. Ignore the part about needing a purpose as a motivation for getting to financial freedom – after emphasizing it extensively, they even tell you to ignore it if you haven’t “found it.” And, the 6% bond solution they discuss is clearly not possible today.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Smart Couples Finish Rich – David Bach. I was sold on this book when Bach showed how the things you really want probably don’t take any money. Some solid financial advice.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

The E-Myth Revisited – Michael Gerber. Shows the difference between creating a “business” and a “job” (hint: you don’t want the latter!). If you’re looking to start any business, you should understand Gerber’s work.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad – Robert Kiyosaki. I recommend most of the books in the Rich Dad series, again with a caveat. The books correctly and creatively emphasize that complete financial freedom requires controlling assets that generate more income than your expenses. The books that talk about specifics are either too simplistic (e.g. the real estate book with Dolf DeRoos) or overly complex (e.g. Loopholes of the Rich). I think it's important to know that Kiyosaki made his retirement money (about $150k/year) by taking advantage of a rare event (see Fooled by Randomness) -- namely the real estate crash and recovery of the 90’s.-- but he made his real money selling his books and other products. You might also like to know that, when pressed, Kiyosaki said there was no real "rich dad."  Click here to find this book at the best price.

The Mind's Past – Michael Gazzaniga. An amazing look into how we make reality out of our perceptions... and how and why we're often mistaken.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Spiritual Enlightenment: The Damndest Thing – Jed McKenna. A very entertaining and insightful look at the effects of our incessant efforts to “improve” ourselves… and what it might look like to do something else, instead.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Inc. & Grow Rich! How to Cut Your Taxes 70% & Protect Your Assets Forever! – C.W. “Al” Allen, Cheri Hill. If you want to see how to use corporate tax laws to your advantage, this is a must read.  Click here to find this book at the best price.

Lies My Teacher Told Me – James Loewen. This is a HISTORY book... and I'm not normally into history. But, imagine asking "Is it true?" to everything you think you know about history. Well, you don't have to since Loewen does it for you. It's amazing to feel the layers of subtle stories I've believed about the past falling apart on every page.  Click here to find this book at the best price.
